We like to save the pumpkin patch for just before Halloween. So, the Saturday before Halloween, we headed out in the glorious mud and rain to find the perfect pumpkins. Pheasant Fields Farm has a fun Harvest Festival during the weekends in October showcasing hay rides, a cow train, animals, a bounce house, plus their usual hay-mountain, tractor swings, and tractor to climb on.

Last year we took the Adventure Boys on the hay ride which takes you around the farm while the driver narrates about the various crops and farm facts. This year we let Adventure Boy O and E take a ride on the cow train which they thought was mighty fine.
Usually I like to scope out the oddest shaped pumpkin for carving, and with over 30 different pumpkin varieties grown at Pheasant Fields, there is plenty to choose from. This year, however, we encouraged the Adventure Boys to pick a pumpkin they could lift on their own. I know, I know, not nearly as adventurous, but sometimes sanity outweighs adventure.

We let the pumpkins warm up overnight inside and carved them Sunday evening. The Boys directed Adventure Dad in the fine art of jack-o-lantern design and helped with the drilling.

Happy Halloween, from our adventures to yours!
