Canoeing for Fall Colors

Fall is our favorite time of year, especially to go canoeing.  The days are pleasantly cool, the birds are migrating, and most of all, the leaves are putting on a spectacular show!  Just 45 minutes from Klamath Falls and with a 9.5 mile canoe trail meandering through a freshwater marsh, Klamath Lake is hands down the best place to canoe.  There are boat launches at Rocky Point and at Malone Springs.  Both have free parking and easy access to the water, but we do favor Malone Springs because it is much less frequently used, is for non-motorized boats only, and is more protected from the wind.

We all managed to take a ride in the canoe together, but Adventure Baby only lasted a few minutes before his grunts of protest turned into cries of indignation and we paddled back to shore to relieve everyone of his fury.  Fortunately, Adventure Dad is a good sport and was willing to take the Adventure Boys back out.  He even let them paddle him around, which is a pretty awesome thing, if you ask me.

I was content to put Baby in the ergo for a nap and do some peaceful nature-watching while they were gone.  I spotted several types of ducks with my binoculars, watched fish jump, and am pretty sure I saw a beaver swimming.

When the Boys got tired (and frustrated) of paddling around, they came back to shore.  Since we have fishing poles permanently packed in the back of our mini-van, Adventure Dad was able to have a moment to himself as well, and even caught a little perch.  While Dad was gone, Adventure Boy E fulfilled his fall adventure wish by "watching birds through binoculars".  When I got tired of holding the binoculars for the Boys, they entertained themselves by making "forts" in the tall grass on the banks of the lake.

Hearing about Dad's success with fishing, the Boys then wanted to go back out and fish as well.  And happily, Adventure Boy O caught his first fish!  He declined to touch the fish, however, due to it's being "slimy".

All in all, it was a wonderful afternoon adventure!
