Last weekend we decided last minute to get out of the house and go for a quick mid-day hike to help the Adventure Boys burn off some energy. Adventure Dad suggested we try hiking one of his favorite mountain biking spots, Jacksonville's Forest Park. Located just one mile from downtown Jacksonville, Forest Park boasts 15 miles of trails within 1100 acres and offers spectacular opportunities for hiking, biking, and horse riding. Dotted with small creeks, waterfalls, remnants of old mines, bridges, and stunning vistas, Forest Park is a great option for a close adventure.

The weather was pleasantly autumn-like and cool, and it even rained on us a bit! We hiked about 1 mile on a small loop that lead to a dry waterfall and enjoyed the changing leaves and the joy that comes from hiking in the rain when you know you'll be able to get dry and cozy as soon as you get home! I was really impressed with the truly forest feel of it and am looking forward to heading back here for more adventures.
